The Loews Ventana Canyon Resort is nestled on the base of the Catalina Mountain foothills northeast of downtown Tucson. This exclusive setting allows views from our guest rooms of the city skyline, or mountains or the 80' waterfall that descends into a serene fish pond behind the lobby and eventually flows underneath the resort to form a beautiful lake at the 18th hole of the Canyon Course.
For the conference, the weather is predicted to be middle 60's midday with nighttime lows in the 40's.
Reservations
We have negotiated a special room rate with the resort of $149 per night. Please register for your room(s) directly with Loews by calling 800-234-5117 and identifying yourself as an Enzyme Mechanisms Conference attendee. The deadline for receiving the special room rate is December 10, 2008. For car rental information and local driving directions see below. It is strongly recommended to make your transportation arrangements well in advance.
Please check-in on Saturday, January 3rd from 12pm - 4pm in the front office to receive conference materials and room assignment.
In addition to the special room rate, we have negotiated various complimentary ammenities and discounts for conference attendees. These include complimentary High Speed Internet Connectivity, overnight parking, and Spa Facilities access (includes 1 free fitness class). We also will receive a 10% discount on Golf Activities and Spa Treatment services. In addition, we have reserved 6 free tennis hours which will be allotted on a first-come, first-serve basis (please reserve courts through Lakeside Spa & Tennis at (520) 529-7830).
Activities
The resort features two nationally known Tom Fazio-designed PGA Championship golf courses. The Canyon Course and Mountain Course wind through the breathtaking Sonoran Desert and are two of the most challenging in the country. We have negotiated a special golf rate of $157.50 plus tax per person for 18 holes, shared cart rental, driving range privileges, and bag storage.
Open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The full-service Spa and Tennis Center offers a complete range of wet and dry massages, body and facial treatments, in addition to an aerobic studio, workout area with Cybex equipment, a full beauty salon, lifestyle counseling, and locker rooms with sauna, steam and Pevonia amenities. Daily entrance fee (This fee has been waived, see Special Rates for details) includes one fitness class. For the tennis buff, eight lighted hard tennis courts, including an exhibition court, await.
Recreational Activities
Outdoor activities include two swimming pools with Jacuzzis, a waterfall cold plunge, hiking trails, a parcourse walking/jogging trail, bicycle rentals, and weekly property and nature tours.
Retail Shop/ Amenities
A wide range of clothing and gifts are available in the resort's Logo Shop, Ocotillo Gift Shop, La Tienda Fine Clothing & Resort Wear Shop, Golf Pro Shop, Spa & Tennis Center and Jewelry Shop. Beautiful arrangements can be ordered through the on-site Floral Design Shop. A coffee/snack cart offers gourmet muffins, fruit and coffee daily from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Guests also have the full use of the business center and concierge staff.
The Loews Ventana is approximately 35 minutes from Tucson International Airport (TUS) and about 90 minutes from the Phoenix International Airport (PHX). Both airports are serviced by the Arizona Stage Coach which provides service to the resort. There are also several car rental companies that provide service in the area.
