Biochemistry, Scientist/Sr. Scientist
Proteovant Therapeutics is a newly launched development-stage biotech company focusing on the discovery and development of disease-modifying therapies by harnessing natural protein homeostasis processes. We recently acquired numerous novel protein degrader programs that are in discovery and preclinical development through our acquisition of Oncopia Therapeutics, Inc., a protein degradation company initially focused on oncology indications. Our lead program(s) in oncology may enter the clinic as early as late 2021. The company recently secured $200M in funding from SK Holdings in addition to investment from Roivant Sciences.

In addition to Proteovant’s preclinical and discovery protein degrader programs and its deep relationship with the lab of Dr. Shaomeng Wang at the University of Michigan, Proteovant is enhancing its drug discovery engine to accelerate development by combining deep drugging expertise with innovative technology platforms including VantAI (Roivant’s AI platform) and Silicon Therapeutics (Roivant’s physics-driven drug design platform). Our current therapeutic focus includes oncology, immunology, and CNS, with planned expansion into additional therapeutic areas in the near future.

Proteovant is rapidly expanding its discovery and development teams in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, DMPK, bioinformatics, toxicology and CMC at many levels. Our R&D organization is primarily located close to major pharmaceutical companies in the Philadelphia area where we are building state-of-the-art labs and office space. We also maintain offices in New York City, with remote work a possibility for certain positions.

Location: King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA
Reporting to: Director of Biochemistry

POSITION SUMMARY:
In this role you will be part of our Molecular Technology group. You will design and execute vital (non-routine) biochemical assays to support early-stage drug discovery programs as well as help to develop and enable technologies for identifying novel bifunctional molecules, molecular glues as well as novel ligases. The individual will independently design, optimize and execute various assays such as TR-FRET, FP, SPA, AlphaScreen, etc. Strong understanding of binding kinetics, modeling of interactions and mechanistic insights is highly desired. Working knowledge of SEC-MALS, Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (ITC), protein thermal shift, or Microscale Thermophoresis (MST) to understand protein-protein and small molecule-protein interactions will be helpful. Lastly, you will help to build our science-first culture, challenge scientific assumptions, and collaborate across interdisciplinary teams to bring new therapeutics to patients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and execute biophysical and biochemical assays for protein degradation programs
• Supervise bench biochemists at CROs
• Work closely with structural biologists, cell biologists, chemists and other functional representatives on cross functional drug discovery teams
• Participate or lead a cross functional team in building a novel platform for discovery of protein degraders
• Interpret, summarize, and present research findings at internal and external scientific meetings
• Participate or Lead target assessment from external sources: academia and external collaborators

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ph.D. in biochemistry, biophysics or chemical biology with relevant post-doctoral experience and 1-3 years of drug discovery experience in biotech and/or pharmaceutical companies
• Demonstrated scientific and technical leadership in the design, execution, analysis, and interpretation of data to drive drug discovery programs and elucidate mechanism of action
• Experience in developing and analyzing biochemical assays to understand binding kinetics and catalysis is required.
• Experience with protein expression and purification is preferred.
• Experience or familiarity with biophysical techniques such as SPR, ITC, nano-DSC, MST SAXS and HDX is preferred • Experience with data analysis software, such as Excel, Prism, Klidagraph, Spotfire
• Knowledge in small molecule protein degradation via proteosome system and deep understanding in the biochemical process, especially protein dynamics of UPS is desired
• Strong problem-solving ability in a science-driven organization is a plus
• Ability to critically analyze and interpret data, and effectively document and communicate results and recommend next steps
• Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with strong verbal and written communication skills
